Skilled Workers Steamfitter/Pipe fitter (NOC Code 7252)

Steamfitters and pipefitters lay out, assemble, fabricate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair piping systems carrying water, steam, chemicals and fuel in heating, cooling, lubricating and other process piping systems. Sprinkler system installers fabricate, install, test, maintain and repair water, foam, carbon dioxide and dry chemical sprinkler systems in buildings for fire protection purposes. Steamfitters, pipefitters and sprinkler system installers are employed in maintenance departments of factories, plants and similar establishments, by pipefitting and sprinkler system contractors.

Requirements

Completed at least 9000 hours (72 months) of hand on work experiences

Acquired Skills

• Read blue prints, drawings and specifications to understand the type of pipe and tools to use
• Install and repair piping systems
• Plan the sequence of tasks 
• Do detailed sketches for pipe and equipment fabrication on occasional request
• Knowing how to measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, assemble and install metal, plastic and fiberglass pipes, valves and fittings
• Putting pipe sections together and secure them in position
• Operate leaks-testing equipments
• Remove and replace worn components
• Do general maintenance
