Skilled Workers Carpenter (NOC Code 7271)

Carpenters construct, erect, install, maintain and repair structures and components of structures made of wood, wood substitutes and other materials. They are employed by construction companies, carpentry contractors, maintenance departments of factories, plants and other establishments.

Completed at least 8160 hours (72 months) of hand on work experiences

Acquired Skills

In residential jobs

  • crib the basement
  • build the house framework, walls, roof, exterior and interior finishes
  • install doors, windows, flooring, cabinets, stairs, handrails, paneling, molding and ceiling tilea

In commercial or industrial jobs

  •  build concrete forms, scaffolding, bridges, trestles, tunnels, shelters, towers and other structures

In maintenance jobs

  • Repair and remodel existing structures of all kinds.

In general

  • Understand blueprint and supervisor?s instructions
  • Planning which includes material selecting, planning sequences, methods of work, and measuring and making materials to avoid costly mistakes or omissions
  • Knowing how to cut and shape materials and put them together with nails, screws, bolts or glue
  • Ensure completed units are level, square, plumb and the right size, shape and location.
